Sokolow took the name from the Book of Ezekiel: "Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel Aviv, that lived by the river Chebar, and to where they lived; and I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days." This name was found fitting as it embraced the idea of the renaissance of the ancient Jewish homeland. Aviv is Hebrew for "spring", symbolizing renewal, and tel is an archaeological site that reveals layers of civilization built one over the other. Theories vary about the etymology of Jaffa or Yafo in Hebrew. Some believe that the name derives from yafah or yofi, Hebrew for "beautiful" or "beauty". Another tradition is that Japheth, son of Noah, founded the city and that it was named for him. Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 as a Jewish city. The city next to it - Yafo - which has now been incorporated into Tel Aviv, was a mostly Arab city at the time, but has a rich Jewish history (see, for example, the Book of Jonah). In any event, Tel Aviv was not and has never been an Arab or 'Palestinian' city. But the 'Palestinian' jihadis are teaching their children that they will return to it anyway and murder any Jew who stands in their way. There never was a city called Tel Al-Rabi. Israel Matzav Blog Opinion: If any land in Tel Aviv was ever owned by Arabs (there were no 'Palestinians' in 1909), it was purchased from them by the Jews (most likely by the Jewish Agency) for full price. On May 10th, 2008, a rap concert was held in Civic Center Plaza in downtown SF to oppose Israel's existence, calling it "60 years of occupation" and to celebrate Arab terrorism, or "resistance" as is often the euphemism. Queer Arab rap duo, NaR, rap in this video about how they are "the definition of a Semite." One of the ways anti-Semites deflect accusations of anti-Semitism is by defining Arabs as the "true Semites." Therefore, their hatred of Jews can not be called "anti-Semitism." This semantic argument fails because 1)they fail to address the hatred of Jews which is wrong no matter what it is called and 2)the term "anti-Semitism" was developed by anti-Semites in England to be a polite way to say hatred specifically of Jews. The other semantics is the attempt to deny Jews of their Semetic roots. This ridiculous exercise is presumably to deny Jews any rights to live in the Middle East despite the Hebrew language and longing for the land of Israel being built into the religious and cultural life of Jews worldwide for 4,000 years.

San Francisco Voice for Israel came to protest the event and held signs in favor of two states for two people and a banner that read "Coexistence, not Resistance." Headliner band DAM from Lod in Israel consider themselves to be "living under occupation" despite being citizens of the state and not living in the areas most people consider "The Occupation" (West Bank, E. Jerusalem, Gaza, Golan Heights) and spoke out against the idea of coexistence from the stage. They demanded the "right of return" so that all the "refugees" (descendants of those who left for whatever reason between 1946 and 1948), even those who are prosperous citizens of the USA, could overwhelm Israel and destroy the Jewish State. DAM openly endorses terrorism, such as in their song "Who's the Terrorist" and endorsed suicide bombings on Israeli television. The rap band Dead Prez was supposed to be the headliner, but pulled out shortly before the event. The rumor is they pulled out when they became aware of the anti-peace, anti-coexistence agenda of the event.

At least he is honest. This is probably because the turnout was far less than expected and the crowd much less enthusiastic than hoped for. Here, we see how bored and sparse the crowd is during a club banger performed by headlining band, DAM, at what should have been the height of the rally!
